The first Reading Terrace is said to have been built further up the Xuanweng Mountain on Huanxi Peak 歡喜岭 at the place where Yang Yin 楊愔 of the Northern Qi (550-577) read. According to
Liu Dapeng, the Reading Terrace was originally built in the 27th year of the Ming Jiajing period (1548). It is located between the Ancestor Lü Ge-Pavilion on its south and the Triple Terrace Ge-Pavilion on its north. Also called Bantong Ting, this structure is number 31 on our plan of the site.
